Maya Angelo
"If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love. Don't be surly at home, then go out in the street and start grinning 'Good morning' at total strangers." Maya Angelo
I love this quote by Maya Angelo. Sometimes I find it much easier to be mean and nasty to my friends and family when I am irritable, but I am always nice to strangers. I guess I don't want to stop being nice to people I don't know, but I should try to be more congenial to the people who are willing to put up with my nonsense year after year.

I think it is something we all need to work on. That is why it becames such a famous quote, because we people in this here human race are just hard headed sometimes... OK a lot of the time! =)
I don't know why we are ugliest to those we love the most. Great quote!
We treat the ones we love the worst because we know they love us unconditionally. This is especially true for children. My son Jakob can be nasty as can be to me after a rough day at school. He works so hard at behaving there that it all pops like a cork out of a bottle when he gets home. I try very hard to not personalize it but help him to learn and identify his feelings of frustration. Thanks for the great quote Lynn!! Love you!!!, Patty
Love you too Patty!
I agree with you. I find it easier to snap at my mom when I am upset. She always lets me know I need to sit back and think before speaking no matter what mode I am in. You might not have the chance to take it back after you say it.
Her name is Angelou, not Angelo.
